today

Today I played legos for over an hour. I played peek-a-boo and read “Brown Bear, Brown Bear” a dozen times. I played cut & color barbie’s hair at barbie.com. I snuggled on the couch and watched a movie WITH my kids.

I really wasn’t thrilled about another huge snow, trapping me at home for days with Jared stuck at the hospital. But as I was sweeping the floor tonight, I realized what a wonderful day I had with my kids. I know I should have more days like today, but I don’t. I let stuff keep me busy. So, thank you to the snow storm for a day free of distractions.

Halfway there…

Last Friday Gwen turned 9. She chose ice-skating with a friend and ravioli for dinner. She got a set of books that she is very excited about (Artemis Fowl) and a charm bracelet. Birthdays are so fun. I think I found a picture from each year except for a baby pic which I’d have to scan and my scanner isn’t cooperating…

When I sit down and look through old photographs, I’m hit with how quickly time is passing. I recently heard a father say when his children were all very young he felt like he would have such a long time to teach them and love them, but as they grew, he realized how quickly those 18 years fly by. And it hit me, we are halfway!Gwen is 9. And does she know half of what she needs to know? What does my mid-term grade look like? Am I really old enough to have a 9 year old? She won’t really grow up and move far away one day, will she? Sigh. Sniff, sniff.

After so much of this:
And this:

We are SO happy to be doing some of this:

And this:

And this:

And even this:

I know the warm sun isn't here to stay, in fact, it's cold this morning,
but I needed that little reprieve to remind me that winter isn't forever.

2010

This year on New Year's Eve we all made collages for the new year. It was fun to watch the kids cut things out and share ideas for their new year plans.

Ryan
Looks like he is going to eat more fruit pizza and Rice Krispies, play soccer, learn to fly like Buzz Lightyear? and be a good big brother

Me
Garden, eat good food, improve on the piano, do at least one sit up, read some good books, get outside, go to bed early

Noah:
Eat more broccoli, ride his bike, smile, follow Jesus and President Monson, snowboard, play the electric guitar, use dangerous tools, find his lost watch (check - found it!), visit the temple and buy a camera

Jared:
I'm not sure that Jared really took our activity seriously - he has a hamburger saying "I love you"

Gwen:
Go green, share my testimony, play piano better, smile a lot, save money, eat healthy, show love, choose the right, be kind to animals and sing better (whew!)

baby gap

Look at those teeth. They are killing me. Maybe she'll be the next Lauren Hutton?
